Leo Schulz is a terrific writer. This book has little to do with Vientiane, but a lot to do with what it means to have a mid-life crisis. The story is at times poignant and at others, laugh out loud funny. If you're looking for a guidebook to Laos this is not the book--the story focuses more on Viet Nam than anywhere else, but it's no more about S.E. Asia than Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance is about Harley repair. Yes, it's that kind of book. Oh, and did I mention Christopher Marlowe? A casual study of his plays is counterpoint for aimless travels. This book is entertaining and edifying: you won't be disappointed.Product details

I read the whole book although there were some slow parts. I'm surprised that these guys got through their adventure without getting arrested! Worth the price.
Very good. Much better than similar books on the same subject. A must read if you plan on travelling to SE Asia.
OK Travelogue.
Very boring and slow plot, if you can call it that. Never really develops the characters. The title is "Vientiane" but the characters spend hardly any time there or even in Laos for that matter. It is just a weak attempt to write a story of typical sex tourists. Living here in SE Asia, I can verify that while there does exist a portion of the population that resembles some of the Asians in this book, most are nothing like the people this author describes. Very disappointing read with a deceptive title. Not worth the price, even if it were free.

Great read for any guy that has traveled though Southeast Asia. Good mix of story line back ground.
I really liked the way that the psychological angles of puerile middle aged males were exposed.
Being a character somewhat like those in the book, I found the book to be humorous, entertaining and insightful with a pretty clear moral outcome.
Great illustration of self delusion and the way men think!
I would buy more books from this author.
